Human Therapeutic Ways Of Addressing Cancer Treatment
As the world continues to suffer from these devastating diseases, researchers continue to find alternative therapeutic ways of addressing cancer treatment. It is on this premise that various immunotherapeutic alternatives have emerged and currently garnering the greatest level of attention and already raising hope throughout the world in addressing the treatment of NSCLC. However, this can no longer be viewed as a discovery but a wave in the medicine world that began in the 20th century. Various researchers have found the importance of the role of immune systems in fighting the growth of tumor caused by cancer cells. A study by Huncharek (2000) stated that specific immune boosters are capable of eliminating preclinical cancers. In contrast, Jermal et al. (2011) found that immunotherapy is an effective approach for the treatment of tumors that have already turned into solid. Similarly, the researchers highlighted that immunotherapy can be an effective approach to the treatment of mela noma as well as renal cell cancers (Lasalvia-Prisco, 2008). However, Jemal et al. (2011) noted that immunotherapy cannot achieve much in cancer treatment due to limitation brought about by the emission of immunosuppressive cytokines and subsequent loss of antigen expressions. Recent development in research studies on the immunotherapy approach to cancer treatment continues to elicit mixed reactions among researchers of medicinal ecology (Jadad et al., 1996). Effect of Imprisonment and Prison Samples â⬠MyAssignmenthelp.com
Question: Discuss about the Effect of Imprisonment and Prison. Answer: Imprisonment Prison is ineffective because most of the people come out worse than they went in Prisons are considered as a means of safeguarding the community and rehabilitate the prisoners. However, there have been instances, which establish that the prisons fail to rehabilitate people instead leads to an incline in the risk of reoffending. Every year a person is kept in prison, it increases the probability of the person to commit another crime after they are released from the prison. In other words, prisons do not deter crime instead; it enhances the rate of crime. In Victoria, the sole purpose of sentencing is deterrence and the instinctive ground of deterrence that is, the punishment of an offender shall act as prevention for the offenders, which would reduce the occurrence of crime (Carey and Del Medico 2014). However, this instinctive ground has ceased to become adequate to develop a sound criminal justice policy. Effect of Imprisonment In Victoria, prison sentences are usually imposed for three basic purposes- denunciation, punishment, rehabilitation, deterrence and community protection. The impact of denunciation and punishment is perceived as direct responses to the criminal behavior where denunciation refers to the statement to the offender and the community that criminal behavior shall not be tolerated in the community (Tubex et al. 205). Punishment refers to the infliction of a sanction upon the offender in proportion to the harm caused by the offender, which implies that punishment is a form of redressal against the moral imbalance caused by such criminal offender. Rehabilitation, deterrence and community protection are perceived as mere responses to the criminal behavior and purport to attain the objective of reduction in the commission of crimes in the future. Several researches have revealed that imprisonment has often resulted in greater rate of recidivism. The possible reasons for the increase in the offending rate is that prisons provide a learning environment for crime and strengthens the criminal identity, which may ultimately, sever the social connections that promote lawful behaviors. Harsh prison environment and conditions do not develop any deterrent effect instead, it encourages the criminals to commit further crimes after they are released from the prison. In Victoria, the Sentencing Act 1991 (Vic) is the primary legislative source that acts as a guidance on sentencing in Victoria. Section 5(1) of the Sentencing Act 1991 (vic) states that the sole purpose for imposing imprisonment is to deter the offenders and other persons from committing further crimes of similar character. In Veen v The Queen (No 2) (1988) 164 CLR 465, the effect of imprisonment has been explained by the court in relation to the concept of proportionality. The common law principle of proportionality requires the court to impose sentences on offenders, which are proportionate to the severity of the offending behavior. if general deterrence takes place without considering the principle of proportionality would involve threatening of potential future offenders which might led them to commit crimes in future (Jewkes, Crewe and Bennett 2016). Achievement of imprisonment compared to other modes of punishment The sentencing of the offenders is a means to make them understand that any person with similar impulses as that of the offenders would be imposed with severe punishment if they intend to omit any further crimes or crimes of similar nature. Although it is a fact, that imposing sentences would not prevent the commission of all forms of crimes but it does not defy the fact that the fear invoked within the offenders from being subject to severe punishment would deter them to commit further crimes. It reduces the probability for committing further crimes as compared to the situation where the offenders had a chance to escape after omitting a crime without being punished or being subject to a light punishment. The imposing of sentences safeguards the society from the violent and dangerous criminals by isolating those offenders severing all the social ties associated with the offenders. However, people who commit offences but are not imposed with sentences are often sent to rehabilitation centers and correctional services. However, in the correctional homes where the offenders comprise the youth in particular, they receive adequate counseling so that they can lead a better life and reinstate their social ties (Cunneenrt al. 2016). There have been instances, where the children or the young offenders do not consider the counseling services and tend to commit crimes after they are released from the correctional homes or the rehabilitation centers. On the contrary, the offenders who are subject to severe punishments and are imposed with sentences, tend to deter from committing crimes after they are released as they are not treated with counselors, instead they are subject to harsh treatment. Nevertheless, the Sentencing Advisory Council of Victoria (SAC) is of the opinion that harsher sentencing is the main factor of the prison population. The brutal conditions of incarceration are primary factor for enhancing the rate of recidivism. The treatment received by the child offenders under the youth justice system is particularly poignant, as the protection of the children in custody has become a raising concern in Australia (Clinard, Quinney and Wildeman 2014). Several media reports have revealed the inhuman treatment that the 13 years and 10 years old are subjected to in the detention centers in Northern Territory. The prisoners, adult or children, are subject to high level of violent, abuse, bullying and other mental health problems not only from the staffs of the prisons but also from the inmates as well. Consequences of abolishing prison system Prisons have undergone several changes and modern day prisons have TVs in the cells. Although the prisons have changed but the necessity of prisons persists to remain. There shall always remain a small section of offenders who poses a threat to the society and the lives of the people in the society owing to their criminal behavior and they shall be kept in the prisons, separate from the law-abiding citizens of the society (Marma, De Lint and Palmer 2012). The contention regarding abolishment of the prison system rests on several assertions. If the fact that the prisons aims at deterring criminals from committing further crimes by punishing them is set aside, it is perceived that short-term sentences leads to increase in the recidivism but long term sentences lowers the rate even if it lowers the recidivism rate by a fewer percent. It can be said, here that longer sentences and not abolishment of prisons altogether, is likely to provide the offenders with the opportunity to rehabilitate. There is a necessity of punishing criminals for their criminal behavior in the modern day society because of the high crime rates in the society. Some people would differ and assert that the prison system is better if abolished as the system is flawed inherently. Some are of the opinion that the crime rates would not come down even if the prison system were abolished, there would not be any change in the crime rates whatsoever. Further, the prison system causes the taxpayers to pay more as they are the ones who pays for the prison system and gets nothing in return. Another argument in favor of abolishing the prison system would be that it is illusionary and that labels are placed on people and severs the social ties of the offenders with the rest of the population (Marma, De Lint and Palmer 2012). However, the arguments against the abolishment of the prison system states that prisons should be reformed instead of being abolished otherwise one would not want to see an offender who committed murder to walk down the street and it would also create chaos. Further, it would also be dangerous for the low abiding citizens as the offender may attack the citizen and commit crimes of similar nature, which gives rise to another significant consequence of abolishing the prison system (Marma, De Lint and Palmer 2012). In other words, the prisoners would commit further crimes of similar nature as they would not have the fear of severe deterrence for committing such crimes. The prisoners would join hands with the criminals with a view to reinstate their power and commit offences and crimes within the society. There are other social issues existing within the community and the abolishment of the prison system would add up to such issues and eventually lead to an increase in the crime rate of the country (Marma, De Lint and Palmer 2012). The prisons should be reformed instead of abolishing the prison system as if the prisons are abolished; it is hard to even imagine that an offender commits a murder without the fear that he would have to go to prison. They would not think twice before committing any offence, as there would not be any consequence for any criminal action. There would not be any rules or legal deterrence that would prevent an individual from committing any offence. From the above discussion, it can be inferred that although it is nice to dwell in a society that does not have any prisons, but the growing crime rates in the country cannot be deterred by providing the prisoners with counseling services or by placing the young offenders in the correctional homes. There is a need for strict deterrent system that would ensure that the offenders are deterred from committing further crimes, thus, safeguarding the society from violators of the law of the country. Religion and Forgiveness Essays - Emotions, Forgiveness, Mythology
Christianity In the New Testament, Jesus speaks of the importance of Christians forgiving or showing mercy towards others. The Parable of the Prodigal Son and the Parable of the unforgiving servant are perhaps the best known instances of such teaching and practice of forgiveness. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus repeatedly spoke of forgiveness, ?Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.? Matthew 5:7 ?Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift.? Matthew 5:23-24 ?And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.? Mark 11:25 ?But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also.? Luke 6:27-29 ?Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.? Luke 6:36 ?Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.? Luke 6:37 Elsewhere, it is said, "Then Peter came and said to Him, 'Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? Up to seven times?' Jesus said to him, 'I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.'" Matthew 18:21-22 Jesus asked for God's forgiveness of those who crucified him. "And Jesus said, 'Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.'" Luke 23: 34 In his time, Jesus created controversy among the Pharisees, when he told people their sins were forgiven. "The Pharisees and the teachers of the law began thinking to themselves, 'Who is this fellow who speaks blasphemy? Who can forgive sins but God alone?'" Luke 5:21 The Christian statement on forgiveness is best demonstrated in the Gospel message itself, that God the Father, chose to forgive mankind not for their own merit, but by unmerited favor. Unlike other religions, a Christian's forgiveness is given because of Christ's sacrifice, and cannot be deserved by any works done by the believer. Out of the basis of this forgiveness, believers are motivated to forgive all debts without compensation, because of their debt that Christ forgave at His own expense. Islam Islam teaches that God (Allah) is 'The Most Forgiving', and is the original source of all forgiveness. Forgiveness often requires the repentance of those being forgiven. Depending on the type of wrong committed, forgiveness can come either directly from Allah, or from one's fellow man who received the wrong. In the case of divine forgiveness, the asking for divine forgiveness by repentance is important. In the case of human forgiveness, it is important to both forgive, and to be forgiven. Allah does not forgive idol worship (if maintained until death), and He forgives lesser offenses for whomever He wills. Anyone who idolizes any idol beside Allah has strayed far astray. (Qur'an 4:116) But if he returns to Allah and pleads sincerely for forgiveness and abandons worshiping other than the one and only God, He will be forgiven. The Qur'an never allows for violent behavior on the part of Muslim believers, except in the cases of defending one's religion, one's life, or one's property. Outside of this, the Qur'an makes no allowances for violent behavior. From time to time certain Muslims have interpreted such Qur'anic allowances for defensive violence, to include what other Muslims have viewed more as unwarranted and overly aggressive violence. This interpretative debate about when to forgive and when to aggressively attack or defend continues to this day within the Muslim community. The Qur'an makes it clear that, whenever possible, it is better to forgive another than to attack another. The Qur'an describes the believers (Muslims) as those who, avoid gross sins and vice, and when angered they forgive. (Qur'an 42:37) and says that. Although the just compensation for an injustice is an equivalent retribution, those who pardon and maintain righteousness are rewarded by Allah. He

What Is The 10x Marketing Formula - CoSchedule Blog
What Is The 10x Marketing Formula Blog If youââ¬â¢ve ever been disappointed in your content marketing results- or lack thereof- youââ¬â¢re not alone. Less than 50% of North American B2B marketersà rate their content as successful. For many, itââ¬â¢s failed to live up to the hype. Iââ¬â¢m on a mission to change that. Let me introduce you to The 10x Marketing Formula. What Is The 10x Marketing Formula?Tenfold Growth In 3 Months The formula is all about achieving tenfold growth rather than incremental improvements. And itââ¬â¢s a system for creating explosive results in short timeframes. Consider this scenario. Imagine your boss saying to you: ââ¬Å"You have three months to grow our email list from 10,000 subscribers to 100,000, or I have to let you go.â⬠Would you know what to do if your job was contingent on achieving 10x growth? Now, before you roll your eyes at such a dramatic scenario, I want to share part of our story with you. Hereââ¬â¢s an excerpt from my upcoming bookà to explain: We were going to build and launch a product in just three months. Launching meant we made the coveted transition from a service-based company to a product-based company. This was great. But it also meant we literally had three months to live. We were betting it all on with just a few months of runway. At launch day, we had one quarter to go from zero revenue, zero customers, and a small following to a minimum of 300 paying customers and a flourishing audience. It was 10x growth or lights out. When youââ¬â¢re staring at zeroes across the board and you have both a team and your family counting on you, the stakes are as high as they possibly can be. Failure is a real possibility. It becomes tangible, constantly nipping at your heels. So, you either make it happen and generate revenue fast, or you and your entire team are out. When you do this, thereââ¬â¢s no fallback system. Thereââ¬â¢s no one to pick up the slack. And minimal returns on sales and marketing activities arenââ¬â¢t simply a disappointing quarter, theyââ¬â¢re doom. In a large company, growing revenues, audience, or a similar metric by 10 percent may be acceptable. But in a startup, numbers like that are your death writ The marketing abyss stared us right in the face and everything was on the line. It was results, or die! The most toxic poison dart frog is the golden poison frog (Phyllobates terribilis). Each frog contains about one milligram of the poison batrachotoxin, which is sufficient to kill between 10 and 20 people or 10,000 mice. Batrachotoxin prevents nerve impulses from transmitting the signal to relax muscles, causing heart failure. There are no antidotes for poison dart frog exposure. Theoretically, death would occur within three minutes, however, there are no published reports of human deaths from poison dart frog poisoning. The frog has special sodium channels, so it is immune to its own poison. Some predators have developed immunity to the toxin, including the snake Erythrolamprus epinephalus. The golden poison frog (Phyllobates terribilis) is the most poisonous poison dart frog. Paul Starosta, Getty Images Reproduction and Offspring If the climate is sufficiently wet and warm, poison dart frogs breed year-round. In other areas, breeding is triggered by rainfall. After courtship, the female lays between one and 40 eggs, which are fertilized by the male. Usually both the male and the female guard the eggs until they hatch. Hatching depends on species and temperature, but usually takes between 10 and 18 days. Then, the hatchlings climb onto their parents backs, where they are carried to a nursery. The nursery is a small pool of water between the leaves of bromeliads or other epiphytes. The mother supplements the nutrients of the water by laying unfertilized eggs into it. The tadpoles complete the metamorphosis into adult frogs after several months. In the wild, poison dart frogs live from 1 to 3 years. They may live 10 years in captivity, although the tri-colored poison frog may live 25 years. After the eggs hatch, poison dart frogs carry the tadpoles to a nursery formed by water in bromeliad leaves. kikkerdirk, Getty Images Conservation Status The poison dart frog conservation status varies widely, depending on the species. Some species, such as the dyeing poison frog (Dendobates tinctorius) are classified by the IUCN as least concern and enjoy a stable population. Others, such as Summers poison frog (Ranitomeya summersi), are endangered and decreasing in numbers. Still other species have gone extinct or have yet to be discovered. Threats The frogs face three major threats: habitat loss, collection for the pet trade, and death from the fungal disease chytridiomycosis. Zoos that keep poison dart frogs often treat them with an antifungal agent to control the disease. Poison Dart Frogs and Humans Poison dart frogs are popular pets. They require high humidity and controlled temperatures. Even when their diet is changed, wild-caught poisonous frogs retain their toxicity for some time (potentially years) and should be handled with care. Captive-bred frogs become poisonous if fed an alkaloid-containing diet. The toxic alkaloids from some species may have medicinal value. For example, the compound epibatidine from Epipedobates tricolor skin is a painkiller that is 200 times more powerful than morphine. Other alkaloids show promise as appetite suppressants, heart stimulants, and muscle relaxants. Sources Daszak, P.; Berger, L.; Cunningham, A.A.; Hyatt, A.D.; Green, D.E.; Speare, R. Resource Environmental Economics Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
Resource Environmental Economics - Assignment Example Nevertheless, the opposite situation is also possible. NOX variable reflects the pollution level in the area. The 'dirtier' in terms of pollution a town is, the less would the demand for housing in it be. Therefore, I expect nitric oxides concentration variable to be negatively correlated with price of houses and the corresponding coefficient to have negative sign. For the CHARLES variable which takes only two possible values of 0 and 1 calculation and interpretation of mean and standard deviation would be misleading. Count and frequency describe this particular variable better. Out of 506 entries, 471 (93.08% of total) correspond to 0-value of CHARLES variable and houses that do not bound the river. CHARLES is equal to 1 for 35 entries (6.92% of total). LSTAT variable demonstrates absence of correlation with CHARLES. Position of houses near a river and percentage of the lower status population in the area do not depend on each other. It is quite logical because the former is determined by the geographical factors while the latter is more of social nature. LSTAT is moderately correlated with PTRATIO, CRIME, RAD (positive correlation), and DIS (negative correlation). Based on the correlation coefficient it cannot be determined which variable influences which. For example, we can assume that high percentage of lower status of the population leads to increase in crime rates because of high poverty levels. However, it can also be argued that the relationship between variables goes in the opposite direction and

Globalization and its affect on the american economy Research Paper
Globalization and its affect on the american economy - Research Paper Example ld economies results in removal of barriers between nations for free movement of goods, services, investments, and also manpower across national boundaries. Practiced as a strategy, globalization results in enhanced economic activities and hence prosperity of all nations and its impact on the US economy is not different, critics notwithstanding. The second half of the previous century witnessed the rapid growth of the US economy in all spheres. It gained position as by far the most powerful nation on earth in economic and military terms, and had a deciding voice in multilateral organizations like the WTO, IMF and the World Bank. High investments in education, research and development, manufacturing and infrastructure coupled with vast natural resources, low population density and a democratic polity resulted in high prosperity of its population. The prosperity put high wages in the hands of its consumers, and consumer spending on food, personal accessories, leisure and entertainment have become important prime movers of economic growth in a self-sustaining way. Being a free market economy, competitive forces ensured that goods and services are offered at attractive prices and/or features, till the market reached a point of saturation. At this point businesses had to look to ever new products, new markets or newer ways of reducing costs, to sustain in business and grow with profits. Globalization, for which the US and other prosperous Western European countries are the strongest advocates through their dominant position in international bodies, can be seen in this background of saturated local markets and declining competitiveness. A few words about ââ¬Ëpost industrial societyââ¬â¢ are not out of place at this juncture. The US society is often called the ââ¬Ëpost industrial societyââ¬â¢ where the emphasis is on knowledge as opposed to manufacturing (Daniel Bell as quoted by Marshall G, 1998). In other words, knowledge-based services offered by professionals are at a

Theories of Ageing Essay Example for Free
Theories of Ageing Essay Major theories of ageing in relation to the development of an individual As an individual grows older they get more withdrawn from the rest of society. The society actually rejects older people from a lot of activities. It is part of growing older and it is a way of distancing yourself from people before you die. Therefore the two major theories examine what causes an individual to distance themselves from this the rest of the people. The social disengagement theory basically examines the development of an individual and how it influences their development as they grow older. The activity theory of ageing examines how an individual continues to be attached to their normal routine of life. The two theories suggest two different things which two different individuals might have an impact on. The social disengagement theory would affect the personality of an individual because they are disengaging from the rest of the society and they become lonelier. Loneliness would impact in their lives because they have no one that pays interest to what they want and what makes them happy. Once the individual isolates themselves from the rest of the society, everybody who was close distances themselves. The social disengagement theory suggests that it is normal for older people to withdraw from the society and it becomes part of their life. This would not be very accurate because it causes the individual to be more stressed. They would be more stressed because they are disengaging from the society and they are getting hold of the fact that they might be dying and nobody cares about their existence anymore. This would be depressing to the individual and it would be more appropriate that they be active as the time to live would be less and it would be healthier not to be stressed and depressed from being lonely and disengaging from the society. The suggestion of the disengagement theory does not help the individual to feel good about them but it makes them feel that they are being isolated and they are getting hold of the fact of death. The activity theory suggests that an individual continues to feel great about their attitude towards their life. This helps the individual to feel the need to be positive about their life. The activity theory suggests that an individualââ¬â¢s self-esteem is not affected by ageing as long as activities e. g. work are replaced with new activities. The more the individual socialises the more they have an active life and they are happier in their in old age. This does not make the individual feel that they are being left out because they are personally involved in the activities that make them feel happier in their lives. The activity theory has an impact in the development of an individual because the more they are happy at their old age; the more they get the opportunity to spend as much time with close relatives and friends. This is helps majorly in the development because the individual can see that people are there for them and it becomes easier for the individual to come to terms easily to that they might die. The acceptance of their death makes the individual be happier and they want to live their life to the fullest. The theory assumes a positive relationship between activity and life satisfaction. Activity theory reflects the functionalist view that the balance that an individual develops in middle age should be maintained in later years. The theory predicts that older adults that face role loss will substitute former roles with other alternatives. This would help them to continue their daily lives as normal. This would be a huge advantage to the individual than disengaging from the society. This is so because they get to be fit in their physique, thatââ¬â¢s if they choose to start having an exercise routine or they may want to take up course because they feel the need to expand their knowledge. If the individual disengages from the society, it becomes difficult for them to engage in any form of activities. The social disengagement theory might be the only option of the individual if they are really terrified of being out. This would also be an option if the service user feels that they are better in that situation when they have no friends and family. Therefore the social disengagement theory would be an option if the service user does not feel good about their self-esteem. The activity theory is best theory because it keeps the elderly person in touch with everything and everyone that is around them. Therefore residential homes should encourage service users to physically and mentally active as it would contribute to their social life in the society.

A Dolls House Essay -- A Dolls House Essays
A Doll House Essay Ibsen said that his mission in life was to ââ¬Å"Inspire individuals to freedom and independenceâ⬠which was shown throughout the play A Doll House. Since he wrote modern theatre, the characters were real and audiences could relate to them. He particularly questioned the role of men and women during his time. Ibsen used A Doll House to motivate women so they would seek more power and freedom in their relationships. Audiences could then look up to characters such as Nora and Mrs Linde whom were independent, some what ahead of their times. Ibsenââ¬â¢s purpose was to not only to enlighten women of their unfair status but also to make the men understand women are much smarter than what they think. His goal was to change these attitudes of all humans so equality could be reached. By 1878-79, when A Doll House was written, womenââ¬â¢s rights had become a burning issue. People such as John Stuart Mill who wrote The Subjection of Women (1869) were one of the first to raise these issues and could be seen as an early feminist. They raised question as to whether the female role was fair. Before then, women were very submissive and had little opportunities. They were unable to have a job and were expected to do household duties and take care of the children. Men were the dominant ones but the women knew no different. For the few who could see this inequality, they were seen as ââ¬Ëunfeminineââ¬â¢ as they were thinking for themselves, which is something only a man would do. Ibsen would be on their sides and tried to express that it was all right, through his characters. Nora plays upon her innocence and helplessness at the beginning to achieve things, being the typical stereotype of women in this time. ââ¬Å"Oh, please,... ... stand up for themselves. They were unlike the stereotype in which women were made into and took responsibility for their actions. The play would make people think and discuss these roles of men and women and even question the values of society. Ibsen hoped he would make women realise they deserve a choice as to whether they want to marry and to be equal with men. Impact of Tourism Industry to the Environment Essay
Introduction The tourism industry can pose a threat to the environment, if changes made to it are not sustainable and are irreversible. This paper is entitled ââ¬Å"Impact of the tourism Industry to the Environment: A Philippine Situation.â⬠The researchers want to discuss how the tourism industry can pose a threat to the environment regarding to the changes made, whether it is not sustainable and irreversible. The researchers chose to do this paper in order to complete the major requirement of Comski 2. Second, to apply their knowledge on what theyââ¬â¢ve learned from the study of research. Third, to apply their learning on APA. Hopefully, this paper will serve as reference guide for the upcoming tourism students to develop their writing skills and love for reading. This research paper will help the students to have a better understanding on how the tourism industry can pose a threat to the environment when a not sustainable and irreversible change have made. According to Itââ¬â¢s Mo re Fun in the Philippines website, the Philippines is the third largest English speaking country in the world. It has a rich history combining Asian, European, and American influences. Prior to Spanish colonization in 1521, the Filipinos had a rich culture and were trading withà the Chinese and the Japanese. Spainââ¬â¢s colonization brought about the construction of Intramuros in 1571, a ââ¬Å"Walled Cityâ⬠comprised of European buildings and churches, replicated in different parts of the archipelago. In 1898, after 350 years and 300 rebellions, the Filipinos, with leaders like Jose Rizal and Emilio Aguinaldo, succeeded in winning their independence. In 1898, the Philippines became the first and only colony of the United States. Following the Philippine-American War, the United States brought widespread education to the islands. Filipinos fought alongside Americans during World War II, particularly at the famous battle of Bataan and Corregidor which delayed Japanese advance and saved Australia. They then waged guerilla war against the Japanese from 1941 to 1945. The Philippines regained its independence in 1946. Filipinos are a freedom-loving people, hav ing waged two peaceful, bloodless revolutions against what were perceived as corrupt regimes. Read more: Itââ¬â¢s More Fun in the Philippines Food The Philippines is a vibrant democracy, as evidenced by 12 English national newspapers, 7 national television stations, hundreds of cable TV stations, and 2,000 radio stations. Filipinos are a fun-loving people. Throughout the islands, there are fiestas celebrated everyday and foreign guests are always welcome to their homes. According to Tourism Research and Statistics Division, visitor arrivals in 2013 totaled to 4,681,307 surpassing the previous yearââ¬â¢s record of 4,272,811 by 9.56%. This feat gives the tourism industry a new milestone as tourists continue to demonstrate sustained growth amidst challenges. During the year, visitor count reached an all time high of more than 400,000 during the months of January, February, March, July and December. The highest growth rate, on the other hand, were recorded in February (15.8%), June (14.0%) and August (13.0%). Koreans remain the biggest source market with 24.9% share to total inbound visitors for 1.17 million arrivals. This market continued to sustain growth at 13% by year-end. The successful conclusion of air services agreement in this market has contributed to increase in flight frequencies in key international gateways. Chinese tourists have bounced back with year-end growth of 69.9% for a total visitor arrival of 426,352. This volume surpassed the revised target for China of 260,000 set at the beginning of the year. The substantial increase in Chinese visitors was first felt in May when arrival posted 107.7% growth. For the past eight months, growth was steady at more than 100% to double digit. Accordingly,à Chinese visitor share to total inbound expanded from 5.9% in 2012 to 9.1% in 2013. Japanese visitors continued to rise steadily with 433,705 arrivals for 5.1% growth. The implementation of new programs and introduction of new products targeting new and niche markets have revitalized the growth in this market. Remaining as the third biggest source market, Japan accounted for 9.2% share to total visitors. Australians and Singaporeans have already surpassed the Taiwanese as the fourth and fifth source of visitor arrivals. These markets posted 11.4%and 18.0%, respectively. These markets demonstrated slow but consistent expansion from seventh and eight ranks during the year. Visitors from the United States of America (USA) contributed the second biggest arrivals at 674,564 for a share of 14.4%. Other countries that contributed substantially are Taiwan with 139,099 arrivals, Canada with 131,381 arrivals, Hongkong with 126,008 arrivals, and United Kingdom with 122,759 arrivals, Malaysia with 109,437 arrivals and Germany with 70,949 arrivals. Moreover, the following markets generated noteworthy gains: Saudi Arabia (+29.7%) with 38,969 arrivals, Vietnam (+27.8%) with 26,599 arrivals, Russian Federation (+25.2%) with 35,404 arrivals, Indonesia (+24.5%) with 45,582 arrivals, United Arab Emirates (+19.5%) with 15,155 arrivals, Thailand (+16.8%) with 47,874 arrivals, France (+15.8%) with 39,042 arrivals and India (+12.5%) with 52,206 arrivals. By regional grouping, the East Asia region continued to contribute the biggest arrivals for share of 49.1% with 2,298,597. The region posted a double-digit gain of 12.73% vis-à -vis its previous yearââ¬â¢s contribution of 2,038,987 arrivals. The ASEAN region maintained its position as the third largest contributor of arrivals by region, accounting for 9.02% of the overall traffic base. This region posted an increase of 12.49%, from its output of 375,190 in 2012. Total revenues gained from inbound visitors for the year was estimated at US$4.40 billion, equivalent to Php 186.15 billion, up by 15.1%. The overall average length of stay of visitors in 2013 remained at 9.6 nights. Foreign visitors stayed for an average of 9.4 nights while Overseas Filipinos stayed an average of 18.8 nights. Average daily expenditure of inbound tourists during the year increased by 8.7% to US$101.12 from the US$ 92.99 recorded in 2012. Koreans showed biggest spent at US$140.81 per day while visitors from the United States have the longest stay at 13.4 nights. On the other hand, based onà per capita spending of the Philippinesââ¬â¢ top markets, visitors from Canada recorded the biggest spent at US$1,393.68. It was followed by visitors from Australia with a per capita expenditure of US$1,382.48. Other high spending markets include: Germany with US$1,360.34, U.S.A. with US$ 1,334.34, United Kingdom with US$1,306.86 and Korea with US$ 874.59. Statement of the Problem The study shall focus on how tourism industry can pose a threat to the environment, if changes made to it are not sustainable and irreversible. This research paper will also answer the following questions: 1. Do you think that most of the changes in our environment are caused by the development in our tourism industry? 2. What are the major changes that happened in our countryââ¬â¢s environment due to our own tourism industry? 3. Do you think that the policies made by the government to address environmental problems which resulted from the tourism efforts are effective? 4. Has the government made efforts to make our environment sustainable to cater to the demands of the blooming tourism industry? 5. How does the country respond to the growing problems we experience in terms of our environment and its impact to the tourism industry? Scope and Limitations This study shall only focus on how tourism industry can pose a threat to the environment, if changes made are not sustainable or irreversible. However, this study shall not focus on other aspects that are not related to the topic to be discussed. Methodology The researchers chose the topic how the tourism industry can pose a threat to the environment, if changes are made to it not sustainable and irreversible. The researchers made a research interview with an expert in order to answer the research questions being made. The research instruments used were the primary references from the Learning Resource Centre in College Department composed mainly of books and some internet sites that gave information related to the topic. First, the data was gathered by listing the title and author of the book. Second, the researchers browsed some articles and internet sites that can help them to answer some requirements needed in order to complete their paper. The plan used by theà researchers in their data analysis started from the choice of topic to be analyzed, formulation of thesis statement, outline, statement of the problem and first draft. Browsing some background and other related information helped the researchers in creating note cards. The researchers, through their interest on the chosen topic, were able to formulate a research problem, and a couple of research questions. The researchers gathered information led them to the conclusion. Presentation and Data Analysis To complete this study, it is necessary to analyze the data collected in order to answer the research questions. As already indicated in the preceding parts, data are interpreted in a descriptive form. This part comprises the presentation, analysis, and interpretation of the findings resulting from this study. Presentation of Data This study presented how does tourism industry can pose a threat to the environment, if changes are made are not sustainable and irreversible. The research questions formulated by the researcher will be answered using the interpretations of the gathered data. General Overview According to Eturbonews website, the Philippines have the total land area of 30 million hectares; where the 15.8 million is composed of tropical forests. Spread throughout the 7,107 islands of the archipelago, these are home to a recorded 556 species of birds, 180 mammals, and 293 of reptiles and amphibians, as well as a vast variety of trees, plants and flowers. Scientists have confirmed that, in the aggregate, 67 percent of the aforementioned fauna and flora are endemic in the Philippines. Every year, moreover, more new species are being discovered in the Philippines than in any other country. But as the Philippinesââ¬â¢ population continues to grow, so have its forests shrunk. In 1934, when the population was a mere 15 million, 17 million hectares were under forest cover. By 1960, the population had doubled and forests were down to only 10.4 million hectares. Since then, due largely to illegal logging and slash-and-burn farming and despite government and private sector efforts to curb them, the annual deforestation rate has been at 2 percent. These gathered data came from a research interviewà conducted by the researcher to an expert. The expert who has been interviewed was Ms. Joreen Rocamora a Domestic Tourism teacher. Changes Caused by the Tourism Industry According to Ms. Rocamora, not all of the changes in the environment are caused by the development of the tourism industry. For her, these changes in the environment are mostly coming from people. It is not only coming from the tourism development but also coming from avarices, apathy and arrogance of the people. When they seek for more, when they would want to get more from the environment whether it is coming from the industry of engineering and manufacturing, if one is seeking more from it then, definitely our environment would changed negatively. Second apathy, when one is indifferent, he or she does not care about the lives of other people especially on how they lived. Environmental awareness will just throw away all of those things and one can harm the environment if we do not think other people especially the future generation, whether it is coming from the tourism industry, engineering or manufacturing or any other industry like agriculture, it could also harm the environment . It is not coming mainly from the tourism industry; thatââ¬â¢s why there is eco-tourism. Eco-tourism is low impact tourism, there is no need for us to develop the area, we just need to maintain, sustain and preserved what we have in the community. Thereââ¬â¢s no need for a lot of visitors to occupy the said area. Tourism development, yes it is one of the reason if we do not minimize the negative impacts of development in our country, particularly in a certain destination. If we maximize all the positive impacts definitely it will not harm the environment. For example when we have new hotels, if they use solar for their power, if they use organic materials, if they use biodegradable and even reuse water to cover the field and even the golf courses for watering the golf courses; when you say tourism development you also pertain to practices and management systems. For example, corporate social responsibility wherein hotels their management reach out to the community to help them and to clean up, to have coastal cleanup, do tree planting. Travel agencies, when we have travel agencies, they also have green movement program wherein they lessen the use of papers and they create packages that would include tree planting activity, coastal cleanup, volunteer tourism. Ità means that even if we have to develop certain areas, we can still minimize negative impacts and be able to reach out to the environment and to the community. We give back to the environment and to the community by providing job opportunities. The interview only states that most of the changes made to the environment came not only in tourism industry but also in other industries whether it is sustainable or irreversible. People can be considered as one of those who make changes to the environment due to its apathy and arrogance. They can also be the one to make some necessary action s in order to preserve the natural resources our country have. Major Changes Happened in the Countryââ¬â¢s Environment from Tourism Industry Positively we have a lot of developments in our country in the environment like La Mesa Eco-park, the rehabilitation of the eco- park because of tourism industry, because of the local government unit and the commission on the parks they are able to create such programs that give livelihood, opportunities and rehabilitate La Mesa Eco-park, Pasig River is also being restored. We also have several restorations of parks wherein they offer packages like a guided tour with the use of eco-friendly materials. When you say major change, I can say in the environment it is a major change that happened in our country it has rehabilitated and it has sustained our countryââ¬â¢s premiere disappearing natural destinations. All in all, most of the changes made to the environment came from tourism industry due to eco-tourism wherein people sustained, maintained and preserved the beauty of natural resources. Due to eco-tourism there are a lot of parks and water forms being rehabilitated. Thatââ¬â¢s why it can be considered as one of the major changes made by the tourism industry to the countryââ¬â¢s environment. Environmental Policies We have one, the latest is ââ¬Å"Bangon Pilipinasâ⬠, and it is a program coming from the Department of Tourism wherein the aim is to help the Samar and Leyte and even the Bohol who were affected by the recent typhoon ââ¬Å"Yolandaâ⬠and the earthquake. Most of the proceeds from the packaged tours are given to the community and to the people from Samar, Leyte and Bohol. Some examples of the environmental policies are no smoking in some areas, the use of eco-bag. There are laws and environmental programs coming from theà government like no to mining, no to dynamite fishing and the no to killing of whales, now they are preserving this extinct whale sharks and no to killing of primates like tarsier and other indigenous animals. When we say environment were not only talking about plants, we have the flora and faunas, ecosystem, marine rich diversity thatââ¬â¢s part of the environment. According to Eturbonews website, an article entitled ââ¬Å"The Philippine Environment and its Eco tourism Potentialâ⬠states some related topics to environmental policies of the country. Thence, in tune with recent global awakening, aided by mainstream media coverage of environmental issues, and adopting new approaches and strategies toward saving the planet for posterity, Philippine government agencies and the private sector have been working closely to focus broader attention on a source of great pride for the Filipino nation, the countryââ¬â¢s abundant wealth of endemic species and the precipitous rate at which these species are decreasing and disappearing. Efforts Made by the Government Yes, Loren Legarda, one of our senators is one of the advocates for environmental programs. She is really pursuing this kind of efforts from the senate. We also have Commissioner Nyem, he is the one who argues to the House of Representatives, he is also the representative to the United Nations World Tourism Organization in the environment. He is the one who made campaign for environmental programs. Yes, theyââ¬â¢re creating efforts with regards to, especially, not only coming from the tourism development, as what I have said when we say development it means we are able to develop one area using recycled materials, reusable, like E-jeepney, solar energy, so we can balanced the positive and negative effects. It doesnââ¬â¢t mean that when we develop a certain area the environment would be destructed. Not all changes made in the environment can produce negative effects. In developing environment we have eco-tourism so it doesnââ¬â¢t need to develop, because when it comes to eco-tourism itââ¬â¢s about sustaining the environment. When we say development it is too broad, we can give opportunity. Development is not only about infrastructure, it is not only amenities, it is not only widening of loads. When we say development we can also provide employment other people which can help them earn money and increase their standard of living. Filipinos Respond to the Environmental Problems Our countryââ¬â¢s ways to respond to problems are by means of policies. As what Iââ¬â¢ve said, the environmental laws, the practices that they are implementing, coordination should be present when the policies are executed; those are the tourism planning and development in our country. Part of our strategic directions for national tourism development plan is developing and sustaining the destinations we have. One of the ways our country is responding to the problems in the environment is by assigning zones called the T.E.Z which stands for Tourism Enterprise Zones, and are the only ones allowed for further development. Other parts not included in the T.E.Z. are not permissible for development because they should just sustain, preserve and maintain it. The most important thing is it should start from us because we are one of those that contributed to the suffering we endure from climate change and global warming. The reason behind the sudden changes in our environment is that it can also come from our own action. We should not be dependent to our government in making plans for the future of our environment. We should have the initiative to do our part even if it will be just in small scale. As strategic directions of the DOT, he said there is a need to develop and market competitive tourist products and destinations; improve market access connectivity and destination infrastructure; and improve tourism governance and human resources. He lamented that the DOTââ¬â¢s budget of $10 million (P423 million) for marketing and promotions has not changed in the past five years, compared to neighboring countries such as Malaysia with $80 million and Thailand with $75 million. With this, he said the DOT will ask the Department of Budget for an additional P5 million in their budget. In a statement, Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez said that climate change will become an increasingly pivotal issue affecting tourism development and management. ââ¬Å"The global tourism industry has been marked by changes as a result of the impacts of climate change on tourism destinations, tourist demand, and creation of policy and management responses adopted by key stakeholder groups with respect to adaptation and mitigation,â⬠Jimenez said. Keep tourism industry a float. Commissioner Heherson Alvarez of the Climate Change Commission said that while tourism industry is a contributor toà climate change by generating greenhouse gas emissions through reliance on cars, buses, especially air travel, as well as high levels of energy consumption such as air-conditioning, heating and lighting, viable and sustainable solutions need to be considered. ââ¬Å"We are living on dangerous but challenging times. To curb greenhouse gas emissions and reliance on carbon-heavy energy, we must scale-up the use of renewable energy sources such as biomass, solar, micro-hydro and wind as they are abundant and ecologically sound alternative to fossil fuels,â⬠Alvarez said, adding that the highly populated Philippines is vulnerable because of its relatively low capacity to adapt to the climate crisis. Alvarez further said that tourism has a huge potential to alleviate poverty and spur economic growth ââ¬Å"so it is urgent that the industr y makes it sustainable and disaster-resilient.â⬠ââ¬Å"DOTââ¬â¢s programs are greatly threatened by climate change. We need to keep the tourism industry afloat as it is a matter of national survival,â⬠Alvarez stressed. Legazpi Mayor Geraldine Rosal, on the other hand, said that with the recent calamity that hit Metro Manila and various parts of the country, there is a need for coping mechanism to be able to adapt to climate change and disastrous effects. ââ¬Å"We need to promote now more than ever the bottom-up approach or the learning by doing approach to address the pressing problems confronting us now not only in the eco-cultural tourism sector but in all vertical and cross sectors of society,â⬠Rosal said. The non-government organization Local Climate Change Adaptation for Development (LCCAD) headed by its President and Chairman Nong Rangasa said that the 1st tourism and climate change conference attended by local officials, business sector and tourism officers aims to enhance the level of understanding of those with the tourism industry on how climate variability and extremes could affect development. ââ¬Å"This conference was designed to showcase, demonstrate and translate effective and efficient implementation of science-based analysis for climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction measures,â⬠Rangasa said. Elephant (2003)
On Tuesday, April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School near Denver, Colorado, two senior students embarked on a massacre, killing twelve students, one teacher, and injuring over twenty more students. The two troubled students then committed suicide. It is the fourth deadliest school massacre in United States history. The phrase ââ¬Å"elephant in the roomâ⬠is used as a metaphor to describe an obvious truth that goes unaddressed, or simply ignored. Everyone knows it is there, but no one will say what needs to be said, or acknowledge the problem that is in front of them.Gus Van Santââ¬â¢s, Elephant, is a cinematic response to the 1999 Columbine High School shootings. Van Santââ¬â¢s open-ended treatment of the Columbine event is one example of how his creative strategy is able to focus the social complexity behind the incident, and stimulate curiosity from the audience. This style of film steps far past the traditional boundaries to the point, demonstrating that this is only s cratching the surface, suggesting that there is much more depth than what is shown in plain view.Elephant refuses to adjust to conventional views of cause and effect, and instead weaves an inescapable spell on its audience with its distinctive long takes, diegetic and non-diegetic sounds, and an interweaving, realistic narrative structure, all contributing to its remarkable visual harmony and an everlasting emotional affect on those who witness it. One creative strategy that Van Sant employs throughout the movieââ¬â¢s entirety is its distinctive, but unique long takes. This unconventional way of filming helps determine the atmosphere of the film as a whole.Van Sant takes the audience on a trancelike journey as the camera follows each character around the school. The action is moved along by the continual course of the camera tracking behind different students as they navigate the school halls, cafeteria, library, and football field. During these long takes, the audience is given the perspective of a passive witness to the action as it unfolds unavoidably. As a result, it becomes a slow-moving film with a snowballing and powerful impact. As Van Sant puts it, ââ¬Å"No cutting is better than cutting.A fabricated story isn't as good as something that's more organicâ⬠(Van Sant). These long scenes are repeated, but through the eyes of different characters each revealing a new perspective of the scene, which increases the sympathy for these students who have no idea what is coming, but was already revealed to the audience. With these distinctive and realistic long takes, the scenes become preserved in the audiences memory due to what seems like a first hand experience of the traumatic event.Another key component to this movies inescapable spell that it places on its viewers is the use of diegetic and non-diegetic sounds. Throughout the movie there is always a constant sound, whether it is the echoes of voices in the hallways and locker room, or the sound of Beethoven playing beneath the diegetic sounds. The use of these diegetic sounds help create a more realistic perspective for the audiences. As they follow behind each character closely, Van Sant makes sure to add every little detail he can to ensure that the audience gets as raw and as authentic of a view as possible. For example, the group of young girls in the cafeteria or in the locker room, there are no sound affects added, what you see is what you hear, creating a naturalistic atmosphere. As another way to increase the tension, Van Sant strategically places the non-diegetic sound of a piano playing classical music to create an ominous mood in the selected scenes. There are only a few scenes at which the piano is played, and it easily goes unnoticed. The sounds of classical music playing beneath the diegetic sounds places the audiences in a dreamlike state, as all they can do is sit back and watch as the story unfolds. The interweaving and realistic narrative structure of this fil m helps show the multiple points of views of this tragedy, giving the audience the ability to become ââ¬Å"the ideal imaginary observerâ⬠and feel as close to the real thing as possible. After reviewing the film, Manohla Dargis of the LA Times states, ââ¬Å"Every so often, Van Sant repeats a scene from another perspective, as if he were winding back time, and decelerates the bustling to put the film into slow motion so we can pay witness to this heartbreaking animation, to the aliveness of these children.I think this is why Van Sant made ââ¬Å"Elephantâ⬠ââ¬â he wants to honor the lives of the Columbine dead, to remember all the kids in their radiant, burning life. â⬠(Dargis). The same scenes are replayed multiple times from different perspectives to show the magnitude of the situation, and just how powerful what is taking place really is. Instead of casting big name actors, Van Sant casts regular high school teenagers, who improvise their dialogue to make it s eem as realistic as he could.By keeping this narrative structure away from the glamour and artificiality of classic Hollywood films, Van Sant allows the story to unfold naturally and is able to preserve the films true meaning, which is to focus on the traumatic event that is right in plain view, but yet no one wants to address. Throughout the film, the audience is given an in depth look at what took place that tragic day. As far as authenticity, this film is as realistic of an interpretation as there can be without dipping into the glamour of Hollywood, and distortion for the sake of a better script. This film is as real as it gets, and it is because of the creative, non-traditional style that Van Sant employs throughout it. There are several different elements that go into creating this film, such as an interweaving narrative structure, or the use of creative and unique shots that help make it extremely impactful. Some elements can be seen with the naked eye; others require a little bit more intellect. Regardless of whether or not the audience can see why this film is more creative and spell bounding than the next, they at least know something is there like the elephant in the room.

America 1900 essays
America 1900 essays America in the year 1900: prosperous, progressive, optimistic, a leader, on the cutting edge of education, and faced with horrible tragedy. When compared with America today, its difficult to not see likeness. Today, we are on the rebound with the belief that things will get better, and we are still a world leader. We are also similarly faced with horrific tragedy, the worst terrorist incident in our countrys history. The country today does, however, differ from itself in the year 1900 in many ways. Today we are more technologically, socially, and intellectually advanced. Things that people in the 1900s thought could never be done, have been. The events of the year 1900 have got us to the year 2002. One way to compare America in 1900 to America today is to look at the presidents. In 1900, the president was William McKinley. McKinley was a soft-spoken man, much like our president George Bush is today. On New Years Day, McKinley held the traditional open house reception. Today, having the White House open like that would be unthinkable. Another major difference is the security at the White House. During the night in 1900 there was only one guard on duty who often retired early. Guards are on alert around the clock in the present day. Both presidents, however, do have similar worries. Terrorism was a threat in the year 1900 just as it is today. The terrorists may not be the same (Anarchists vs. Al-Qaeda), but the threat was and is there. The economy is a constant worry among both presidents. Each of them knows and knew that people vote by their pocket books. Another key similarity is each presidents connections to big business. McKinley befriended J.P. Morgan, an infamous busines sman with more money than the U.S. treasury, and Bush has ties with Enron, the now defunct energy company. Just by looking to the presidents in each time connections can be seen. America was constantly changing scientifically and tech...

Commodity Chain Research Paper with Map of Chain
Commodity Chain with Map of Chain - Research Paper Example Some of the production factors considered when evaluating a business process entails the availability of raw materials and all the factors that surround the raw materials like the required transport charges and the nearness to the raw materials source. On the other hand, the consumption process has to be analyzed to evaluate the various factors that influence the market pattern of the products. This brings us to the juncture of studying the production commodity chain (Bair 46). Commodity Chain of Chinaââ¬â¢s Honey This commodity chain is focusing on the production of Chinese honey, its export process and all the social, economical and the political aspect surrounding it (Gereffi 75). Chinese honey is produced in the central Guangzhou province. Guangzhou province is the second largest and most populated province in the Peopleââ¬â¢s Republic of China. The leading economic activity in this region is crop production. Guangzhou province is also the leading producer of Chinese honey that is illegally transported to the US through India. The exact location of honey production in Guangzhou province is the Xue Xing County. The residents in this region have been practicing honey production as their major cultural activity (Gereffi 88). Bee keeping in this region is facilitated by the environmental conditions, which include availability of water from the great Xue Xing River. Since honey production evolved into a lucrative business in China, many venture capitalists have invested in mass production honey exercises. Honey production proved to respond to the economic needs of the local population. Mass production of honey in this region has maintained the cultural practices of the local community (Stringer and Heron 241). The province is also known to attract political attention in the country because of the population and the economic strength attributed to honey exports. The local workers benefits from the wages they collect and most of them are known to be practici ng small scale bee farming and selling the honey to large companies for processing. Therefore, honey production is a social as well as an economic activity in this Xue Xing County (Hu-DeHart 76). Honey production is encouraged by the local authorities because of the economic viability of the honey industry. Mass honey production is carried out by large established local companies in Xue Xing County. The largest producer of honey is the Xue Xing Honey Company. Honey production and harvesting is carried out by local casual workers employed who are the local residents. Upon maturity, honey is harvested and taken to the companyââ¬â¢s processing facilities near the harvesting sites where they are processed and packed in large quantities. After packing and branding, the honey is loaded into train containers and transported to New Delhi, India. India allows the importation of Chinese honey into their country. The honey imported to India is meant for local human consumption and other ind ustrial uses of honey. However, the price of honey in India is not high compared to the market in Australia and America. Therefore, the honey barons from China would want to secure another lucrative market in the international platform. The labeling process is suspected to be carried out in Xue Xing subordinate company in Indiaââ¬â¢s New Delhi (Hu-DeHart 34). The honey is removed from the containers and repacked into small quantity cans meant for export product. This process of labeling is not authentic and is normally carried out

Managing Customer Service Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
Managing Customer Service - Essay Example Both gaining customer commitment and stimulating employees can produce an outstanding service for the corporation and to ensure that the results first satisfy the client, and then lead to successful target achievements. Service strategies vary from company to company, however, they are some general rules that need to be observed. Each service strategy aims to improve its customer care and to meet the needs of its customers in the most professional manner. Strategic approaches aim to continuously enhance the understanding about the customer service and how to implement it into the routine work with clients. In order for a company to succeed it should have easy to grasp strategy endevours, which are understood by the personnel. This constitutes a great level of the customer service, since they provide diverse pieces of advice and support for its clientele. Cook (2008) also elaborates on modern online technology and explains how those changes affected the overall customer service and employees. Customer engagement is best explained by Cook (2008) illustrating few example from eBay, Tesco and John Lewis. There is a universal structure and service units regardless of where they are positioned in the mar ket chain and as geographical location. Among the other useful tips that Cook (2008) provides her readers is to listen to customers. Listening to customers is one of the most vital principles of service management. Attention should be paid to the customer's demands and requirements. Company representatives should carefully direct customers in order to understand and meet their needs. When customer is speaking, the employees should carefully pay attention and if necessary take notes, especially if the conversation is conducted over the phone. While listening to the customer, the employee should quickly take action on those issues that are easily solved and fixed. Another topic that Cook (2008) reviews is the implementation of customer care strategy. Since customers are becoming growingly sophisticated and inventive in their demands, this requires the implementation of well organized customer care strategy. Every business is dependent on the clients, thus to provide a high level of responsiveness to their desires is the prime aim of every organization. Developing and implementing extensive approaches to customer relation management has increasingly become the cornerstone of service management. There are also training and development programs for customer service which aim to make the servicing more interactive (Cook, 2008). There are integration approaches into these training customer service programs which debate real situations and life experiences and enable the employees to frame their impressions about the ever-changing customers' demands. Recognition and rewards are other inseparable part of excellent customer care (Cook, 2008). The comp any has to recognize the customer as valuable and to indicate that he is important, because he choose particularly us to provide him with the service. To connect reward with customer loyalty we have to show that we try our best to keep the customer. To achieve this we reward him in many different ways - from offering him discounts, to bonuses for returning to us again. Mudie and Cottam (1999) look closely at the relationship between marketing and public sector issues. Besides pointing out to these key areas, they also provide exhaustive examples and case studies

Ethics and governance Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words - 1
Ethics and governance - Essay Example This left Texas City quite vulnerable to a catastrophe. The decision by the key actors in this BPââ¬â¢s case was founded on the need to ensure that the issue of non-compliance to public safety and health issues by oil companies was addressed. According to Campbell and Tom (2005, p. 551); Davies (2006, p. 106-120) corporations which do not subscribe to the appropriate business ethics do so because they have egoistic inclinations. It is imperative to note that failure to uphold ethics also amounts to lack of effective governance within the affected corporations. Ethics and governance issues in corporations lay the foundation upon which virtues within firms are laid. The action by the Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (CSB) to investigate BP was to audit its safety standards. Hence, this decision was based on the oil fire incident at BP which killed fifteen of its workers and injured a hundred and seventy others. However, the company had ignored this issue for a long time. The report notes that this company was plagued by years of cost cutting which in turn increased its vulnerability to this catastrophe in its refinery in Texas. According to Mortishead, (2005, p. 8); Davies (2006, pp 106-120) the decisions of BP through its management and workers of the company were based on the need to improve its image in the oil industry. From the BPââ¬â¢s case, there are a range of possible consequences based on the report findings. These consequences were changes triggered by the findings in the report. One such consequence is the improvement in the compliance to safety standards by BP and other companies as well. According to Stocker (2005, p. 453-66), in so doing, these oil firms would have to embrace the canons of ethics and governance. In this regard, they shall have to implement fundamental organisational changes to ensure they are virtuous. The other actual consequence is the loss of market leadership position by BP to

Conveyor Bases Sorting System Colour Sensor Signal
Conveyor Bases Sorting System Colour Sensor Signal CONVEYOR BASED SORTING SYSTEMÃ COLOUR SENSOR SIGNAL CONDITIONING Abstract: This report analyses the best strategy for interfacing the colour sensor with the microprocessor by using either Comparators or Analogue to Digital Convertors (ADC) in the process. Focusing mainly on the advantages and disadvantages of these two components, we can conclude which one is more effective and responsive with cost, time taken to process the programme and reliability. Using C programming a microprocessor is programmed in order to detect the colour of the objects passed on the conveyor belt using LDR. Analogue to Digital Convertor (ADC): It is a system that converts the input analogue signals (from a light source or sound signal) to digital output signal by a process called quantization, which is also called as digital signal processing that is the process of mapping a large set of input values to a countable smaller set. Generally, the digital output signal is in binary number that is proportional to the input values. Component parts of ADC: There are seven different components within the ADC that make up the whole processing circuit which includes, Set-Reset latch has 2 inputs and outputs which used as storage element in ADC Clock a constant input signal that fluctuates between high and low and is used coordinate the actions of the circuit. AND gate a basic logic gate which has only high inputs (1) to start the conversion when prompted. Counter an electronic device which stores the number of times something occurred and used directly with the clock signal. DAC to convert the digital signals to analogue output signals when commanded (reverse function of an ADC) DATA latch takes the output of counter as its input and convert the analogue signals into digital outputs. Comparator that compares two voltages or currents and changes its output depending on which is larger. Advantages of ADC: Some benefits of using the ADC in this colour sensor interfacing system with the microprocessor are listed below, Cheap in cost and speed varies to different ADC for example flash ADC is the fastest of all its kind. ADC has higher resolution than using a comparator. Less steps and components when it comes to programming in a microprocessor Clock in ADC keeps the circuit in time and provides a square wave input. Set-reset function allows the circuit to be functioned and keeps it in control. It converts any input voltages, even from 1V to 5V into a digital output (flashing LED from less bright to very bright display) through its built in components whereas in a comparator it is either 0 from 0V to 2V and 1 from 2.5V to 5V. Disadvantages of ADC: Also the drawbacks of using the ADC are, Slow in speed compared to a comparator device as ADC has more component parts than comparator. Each and every parts have to be earthed appropriately. Have to have many inputs into the encoder (for 4 bit outputs 16 input signals and for 5 bit its double the inputs). ADC has several sources of errors like quantization error. These are measured in least significant bit (LSB) Comparator: Comparator is an electronic device that compares the input two voltages or currents and outputs the higher or larger (1) digital signal. It consists of a specialized high -gain differential amplifier which are commonly used in devices that measure and digitize analogue signals, such as Analogue to Digital Convertors (ADC). Comparators are also being installed within analogue to digital convertors (ADC). Advantages of comparator: Using the comparators in the microprocessors in the circuit can have some positive impact on the project. Some of them are, Cheaper in cost when comparing to other devices of amplifying. Comparators does not require an external power source such as additional current or voltage supply since the power comes from the processor. These are in ordinary working condition and very compact and robust model and are very easy to handle. Can be portable as well. Electrical comparators have very less moving parts and the pointer is very light and not sensitive to the vibrations. Disadvantages of comparator: Some of the disadvantages of using the comparators are, Heating of coils in the measuring unit may cause zero drift and can alter the calibration. If only a fixed scale is used with a moving pointer then with high magnifications a very small range is obtained, in this case itll be from 0V to 2V its low (0) and from 2V to 5V its high (1). Conclusion: Using an Analogue to Digital Convertor would be the possible solution in this colour sensor operating system as there are more benefits from ADC than Comparator. Since ADC has higher resolution and uses two registers to record the values from their 10 bits of inputs, it is more reliable and accurate with a few quantization and bubble errors. Comparator is one of the parts in ADC and it can only be used to differentiate two or less objects as it has a maximum of two outputs but ADC has plenty. Therefore, with ADC we can identify the three different coloured objects through this colour sensor.
